Straw Poll: What Would You do With the Tenbury Cattle Market Site?

Now that the Tesco bid on the Tenbury Cattle Market site has been rejected - isn't it time to instigate a debate in both the town and local community about possible site uses and funding options?

Let's get a discussion underway..
This quick poll above is just a snapshot and we realise that it's not definitive but we think that some discussion ongoing is better than none. Tesco may yet come back with an appeal or revised plans but we think being proactive with debate about the site's future is the right course. If the things that you'd like to see done with the site aren't on the quick list below then could you click 'other' and maybe write your suggestions as a comment below the poll.

What about funding?
Additionally, if you've any ideas about possible methods of funding - grants, gifting money etc then we'd like to hear about those too in comments [below].

  1. I've gone for the blended option, but I'd like to add that I would love to see that include something special being made of the riverside, as well as maybe the Farmer's Market that already has permission and space for other markets (mistletoe and holly particularly, of course).

The Museum and Tourist Info in the RBB building sounds brilliant too - a great position for them, and lots of potential for their activities too.

I think any combination of these would make the site into a brilliant community asset and a real attraction for people coming to Tenbury, as well as those who live here.

  2. The mistletoe fest back into the town centre has been mentioned as an aspiration by both MHDC and TTC in recent weeks. Tenbury's tourist season was widely reported as being 'thin' last summer too.. The site's in a prime riverside location that [if developed sensitively] could act as both a money earner and a tourist draw..

I like the idea of the blended option too. The issue as ever is going to be funding and methods of raising funds.. I'm not aware of any one organisation that has looked into presently available funding options in any depth though - so maybe there's options that we're not aware of yet out there to be discovered?

  3. Does anyone have an address to send the hard copy leaflets to that are presently being made available?

  5. As mentioned on the forms, all of these handed-in will be passed to MHDC when all are collected together at the end of Feb 2011.

The forms will also be recorded on a master sheet pre-handover so that a 'big picture' can be seen/also handed-over.

  7. Hi anonymous - could you expand on what you mean on the form when you fill it in/hand-back as it's not 100% clear what you mean.. Do you mean a small supermarket [like Tuffins in Ludlow] or large [like Morrisons in Leominster], mixed with parking or just some parking and/or some landscape improvements etc? There's a few variations possible that's all..
