Myth-Buster 02: A Tesco Will Bring Prosperity for Tenbury

Most of the profits generated [if Tesco build in Tenbury] will go back to Tesco HQ in Cheshunt, Herts. Much more money goes back into the local economy if you buy in local small independent food retailers though.

  2. Mnn. I'm no expert on Bowketts and their trading methods so I can't really comment..

Tesco do seem to do things that help with schools etc though - vouchers etc. All great PR for them and they do trade on it a bit..

In the long run though if a Tesco was built in Tenbury they'd need to give a whole lot more than vouchers back to the community to compensate for the various small independent highstreet food shops that would be forced to close as a result of their merciless undercutting of local business.

  3. I think it is also a myth that Tesco's use aggressive local pricing. They say that they only have two prices. 1. National 2. Slightly higher in inner city high street stores.

I have seen no evidence to dispute this.
